It's THAT time again! Casa Tornadiac has been THE gathering place for Tornadiacs and others to meet, eat, drink and hang out (not necessarily in that order ) during the Laguna Seca MotoGP round since 2005. With the possible exception 2005 when we had a TON of folks come to the 1st Annual Casa BBQ (not to mention the first and original webmaster JP residing at the Casa).........last year's Casa was the best ever. Fuck me......I'm just thinking how fucking crazy it would have been if Tobes was able to make it last year!! In the words of Boris......"EPIC"!!

So Graystroke needs to fill up the Casa! Most of you here know the score...but for those who don't know what Casa Tornadiac is about......here's the deal:

Casa Tornadiac is a 4 Bedroom, 2 Bath home in Carmel that "officially" sleeps 8. It is available to Tornadiacs and their friends to reside in during the Laguna round of MotoGP. It is officially open from the Wednesday before the race through the Wednesday after the race........a FULL WEEK. Cost per person is $500......whether you're there for the whole week, or 3/4 days.....cost to you is the same. If you're spending the weekend at the races, it's tough to beat the Casa, Talk to anyone who has resided there. Graystroke's recommendation is to be at the racetrack on Thursday.....the BEST day to connect with riders, etc. as the track is not officially "open" for the race weekend! There are no spectators (almost), no tickets required to access the track/paddock!

So.....if you're coming to the Casa........I ask that you post up here......AND if I don't already have your personal contact informaiton PM me through the website too so we can connect offline. Any questions you can post up here or PM me. See you there!

No, not the kind that involved in animal medicine. Any military vets on the forum? Myself, 23 years USAF. Started out as an EOD Aprentice, but didn't do so well at that. Probably for the better. Spent the next 14 years as a heavy deisel mechanic and then finished my last 8 flying on KC-10A's as an Aerial Refueling Specialist or as we're more commonly known, Boom Operator. Now I'm retired and just going to school, using my GI Bill. I spent most of my first 15 years moving around before finally settling here in Northern California. I spent time in Spokane, Wa, Spangdahlem, W.Germany, New Mexico, The UK, Florida panhandle and finally Northern California. It was a great ride.....looking back, it seems like it went by in the blink of an eye. Specially the last 8. Living life in flight operations is extremely fast paced and it literally just went by so fast, I couldn't believe I was retiring. So, any other vets out there?......Sean

More mixed conditions, race one red flagged and then canceled due to the sky not being able to make up its mind (and a lack of rain tires, so it seems).

Unfortunately Hopper apparently was one of the early victims (after a great start) and is off with a broken foot, or so the announcers said. He didn't make the grid for race 2.

Race 2 also red flagged at half distance (more rain) and half points given out.

Good on Tom Sykes, for his half (1/4?) victory.

WSS was interesting, if not somewhat white knuckled.

What is it with rain and motorcycle racing this year?

No wonder it's said the thing has "power delivery issues".

I can see torque curves made to be broader, or perhaps a bit softer towards the bottom of the rev-range, but really, maybe some traction control isn't a bad thing.

I don't know how a thinking fan rates Bayliss and Fogarty ahead of Edwards, but there you go. Colin Edwards and John Kocinski are forever the two best as far as I'm concerned--Kocinski because he beat Ducati with a 750cc bike (and showed up Fogarty in the process, both while Fogarty was on a Duc and by doing much better than Fogarty had on the same bike the previous year), and Edwards because he was the guy that showed the world that the Japanese could meet Ducati on a level playing field and beat them, even without the decade+ of development advantage with twins that Ducati enjoyed.

God, this is reminding me why I hate Ducati...

Sat in the warmth of a certain country out east, it sounded like a good idea to go to Assen at the last minute. The reality of the shit weather we are having makes me think that the decision to spunk up over 400 bucks (US) for a ferry to go over looks like madness. It's going to be wet and cold amigos. I'll be there though. Too late to sort a pass out so I'll be in the stands with my Dutch friends.
To be honest, if the Multistrada wasn't such a sweet bike, I wouldn't have even thought about going. I'm going to have fun though and spend some of that money I earned last weekend on the ten separate flights I took to get to and from work.
I fancy a Tom Sykes win this weekend. He's great in the wet and he's on it in the dry on that Kawasaki. Eugene back fit when I spoke to Pippa at Brands. Leon H also. It may be a good weekend for the Brits as the weather will be British !!

First round kicks off today on the Brands Indy circuit. Those of you that don't know it, it's basically the main track from the straight, paddock hill, Druids, graham hill bend, right at Surtees and back onto the straight at Clearways. Lap Time around 46 seconds. 30 lap race so the tail gunners get in the way of the leaders well before halfway. Not my favourite round but hey ho. Riders in the field include Nori Haga, Florian Marino and Luca Scassa. First Q yesterday and current champ Tommy Hill crashed in Q 1 so starts 29th on the grid. M Laverty had similar issues and starts 21st. The utter throbber Josh Brookes is on pole. BSB going to be good this year. It's going to be wet today so anything could happen. I'm off to the track in an hour.

RULES OF THE GAME:
1a ) Select the 5 riders you think will finish the race in 1st-5th positions.
1b ) Select the 1 rider you think will achieve the fastest lap in the race.

write your 1st-5th selections each on its own line in order
write your fast lap selection on its own line following 1st-5th
you should have 6 selections listed if you do this right
an example entry is shown at the bottom of this post
use only the rider's last name
put nothing else on the line
you can shorten the rider's last name
minimum 3 characters allowed for shortened name
shortened names must unambiguously match one single rider name
if you don't understand shortened names, spell the whole damn thing
e.g. Edw or Edwa or Edwar or Edward all match Edwards

2 ) Only the first 6 selections will be extracted from your post.
Improper format results in some or all or your selections being excluded.
Improper spelling of a rider's last name results in that selection being excluded.

3 ) Entry deadline is start of race on race day. If you post an entry after the deadline,
you are disqualified.

4 ) You can change your entry as many times as you want up until the deadline.
You can edit your original post OR add a new post. If you edit your original

I had meant to post up on here the other day and mention that our good friend and renowned photographer Andrew Wheeler was going to be making an appearance at the D-Store (Dainese) in San Francisco. The D-Store has stuff happening all the time....guest speakers (I saw Marco Simoncelli there in 2010), Lorenzo (2009), and on race weekends they show the races at the store! Last night they had pizza, soda and beer for the attendees...COOL!!

Anyway.....I had wanted to post here to solicit questions from the Tornadiacs to pose to Andrew. Well, obviously that didn't happen THIS time.....but NEXT time I'll make sure. Andrew will probably do another evening when he's here for the Laguna round.

It was great. He did a slide show of ALL the races he covered last year with commentary covering all manner of subjects......from the tracks, what he likes/dislikes about them, the riders, the cities and areas, local food, people. Talked about the individual photos and what/why he took them, what he was trying to get. He talked about HOW he works in various aspects. It was all very good.

He was selling photos, along with his Simoncelli Book and Calendars (I need to order 1 of each). Emily was there too. Those of you who FB know of Emily's battle with cancer. She's doing well, spoke with her. ALSO....a few weeks ago, Andrew himself had a scare. He almost bit it! He had a pulmonary embolism. He'd been getting out of breath on occasion....didn't think much abou it. One day, went to the hospital.....the doctor said, "You're not leaving"! Said that if they'd not seen him......in 24/48 hours......he'd have been a goner. Andrew said he's lucky he decided NOT to go to Sepang for testing. He would have been on the plane........FORGETABOUTIT!

MotoLiam was there, as was Jules Cisek from MotoGPod.com. Bunch a ladies there. During the session Andrew addressed me directly several times. Afterwards I was talking with him and Liam, Jules. Got into conversations with several ladies, who each asked me if I was in the "industry". Hahaha......I wish.

CRT Question

So, the CRT teams are allowed 6 extra engines per season, for a total of 12, right? So what happens when someone claims one of their engines? Do they get authorized another engine to make up for the one they lost. Does the claiming team have to give up one of their unused engines?

If this isn't the case, then could all the other teams get together and each buy one of Aprilia's engines for 20K Euros and they wouldn't have any to run for the season.

Imagine this series with Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Aprliia back with BMW joining. The sport has become so expensive due to the black boxes and all their programming. Since the last 1000cc era things have gotten awfully pricey. When the 800's were introduced a new era of electronics were introduced and costs skyrocketed. Honda and Yamaha won't participate without electronic development in the series so what is the answer? Carmelo is right, the leased bikes have to come down in price but the Japanese aren't budging a millimeter. Is traction control so important that it's worth ruining the entire series over? Costs went up and Kawi left first then Suzuki, who is next? I'll give one thing to the Japanese, they are the most stubborn people in the world. They'd rather ruin the series to get their will. As redmike has pointed out, production bikes don't have Carbon brakes. I've also said that Honda doesn't make a production V4 sportbike, neither does Ducati any more. Production bikes don't use gas charged forks, few use Magnesium wheels........I mean the Japanese keep stating over and over again that GP's is their R&D bed but a lot of that is bullshit because they could test out TC and anything else on their own test tracks or actually test it out on their production bikes in WSBK.

I guess I'd rather see the series go all CRT than the way it has been during the 800cc era and now. It's ridiculous. Think back to the previous 1000cc era or the 500's. There were heaps of Sat bikes and they had a shot at a win some times, and always the podium. 2006 @ Portugal was the last time a sat bike won a race, almost 6 years ago and now the better part of the decade. You know why? The black box. So easy to control power levels and limitations via the complex black box on a leased bike.

The reality is this is a 6 bike championship. The factory teams are really in the race and all the other bikes, whether Sat protos or CRT's makes no matter and they could all go home. So we really have a 6 bike series due to the exponential costs that the black boxes have caused. 6 bikes and the rest of the grid is there for show. GP has used modified production bikes and engines before so CRT's is nothing new at all.

I can't wait for a spec ECU to be introduced and watch the Japanese, like bitches, will take their ball and run home. Fine by me. I remember the days when these bikes slid around and there was much more dicing, much more fighting, much more position and lead changes. During the 1000cc and 500cc 2 stroke eras, it was like the damn Superbowl every race, every single race. You were on the edge of your seat at home for many races of the season as a number of people were swapping position on track. Back to that 2006 Portugal race, it was the single best MotoGP race I've ever watched. Elias was all over the place and pulled it off, on a Satellite bike.

Big wrecks from the get go, some of the highest speeds they've ever seen...and just over a half-hour ago (as I write this), JP Montoya HIT a fucking JET DRYER. Yes, I typed that right, a got-damn JET DRYER. The ensuing fireball was beautiful.

And yes, JP and the truck driver were ok.
