I'm just passing through, so don't panic Posted Image

After my epic failure down the years to make Laguna (a few on here know why) I'm looking good to finally attempt a landing in 2012.

So, what is occurring with folks from this forum in terms of attendance?

I'm trying to avoid LAX in my preliminary planning. Anyone getting into San Fran on the Wednesday who is hiring a car I can bum a ride in down to Carmel/Casa?

I believe the "Casa" is on hold as the owners want to update it and reopen it! I'm still on standby if I'll attend or not.

Tobes, Gray is sourcing another house for us to rent. I've got a room reserved in Monterrey @ Borg's for backup in case anything falls through. . If Sharp is tits up on going this year you are welcomed to split it. I've already booked my flight and bought my Paddock Suite ticket. I'll be flying into San Fran as well on Wednesday. Gray has assured me he'll get me down to Monterey from San Fran on Wednesday so you should be good to go. At worst case we'll have to give Gray some $ to get us down there. I'm not renting a car unless I have to because once in Monterey it's pretty easy to hop a bus to the track. I'll be going to the track Thursday as there is never anyone there and the best day to walk around and talk to the riders . You can check out Borg's (Google it), it's right on the beach and the cost is actually quite good but I'm thinking Gray will get us a house. Either way I'm going. Last hoorah for me @ the CASA tornadiac as I'll be in Austin from 2013 onwards. As always looking forward to the beauty and weather of the Monterey Peninsula, nothing like it anywhere else in the US. Plenty to do outside of the track. Worst case is I'll have to stay @ Borg's which is walking distance to downtown Monterey and pretty much everything.

If you are going to go call the track (or email) then see if they have any Paddock Suite tickets left. Turn 3 is the best, then turn 4, then turn 2. They are worth the cheddar.

My flight arrival: Arrival (SFO): July 25, 8:45 AM PDT (morning)

I'm flying out out of Monterey on the 31st.

A side track, but the Austin rumors I've heard from people that know more than me are these: expect the F1 race to happen, expect the MotoGP round to fall apart.

Okay, all understood. I've got a flight in mind that gets to SFO at 13.25 on the Wednesday so a few hours after you Booth, but it's the closest I can get although there is nothing stopping me getting in Tuesday night I suppose. I will have to be out of there on the 31st, again, from San Fran to LHR. There is a flight with BA that includes the connection from LAX to MRY but that means the clusterfuck that is LAX security and customs. It does have a 3hr 15 minute layover at LAX so that should be enough to be raped and groped before the flight to MRY. It gets to MRY at 17.15pm. I dunno yet. Got some time to decide.

I'll keep up to date by reading here regarding the house Greg, or on FB if you are knocking about. Let's see how that shakes out. If I have to go the hotel route I'll have to split it with someone as it's an expensive gig as it is. Should be someone here that will need to grab a room. Again we got a little time.

How long do those buses take to get to the track from Monterey?

The Austin race is on some uncertain ground at present.

If you fly out of Monterey then you'll deal with customs there and not at LAX. Would be a good way for you to get around the bs. Monterey will have plenty of international folks that weekend. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but if you have connecting flights in the USA, you only have to deal with security the initial time when getting on the first plane. You do not have to go back through and then customs again. Once you are in, you are in.

For me, I will be flying out of Monterey on the 31st and I'll have to deal with TWA at the Monterey airport but not at LAX.

Casa Tornadiac update:

Okay....a while back when I called the agency about booking the Casa for 2012.....I was told that the home was off the rental market and up for sale. At that time they also said that a group was interested in buying the home, doing some updates (kitchen, back yard) then puttig it back on the vacation rental market. A few weeks back I called the agency again to get an update.....they said that deal fell through. Oh...the agency (San Carlos Agency) wasn't the listig broker for this property. Turns out the owners listed the property with another broker/agent because they didn't like what the folks at the San Carlos Agency told them about what they can get for the Casa! Unrealistic homeowners.......arrggh.....I know them TOO WELL! It's not easy being honest.....

So....that's what I knew...until a few minutes ago. So.....I did some sleuthing, found the phone number for the owners (they live in the East Bay.....about 1/2 hour from me) and called. Introduced myself, said I was inquiring about the Casa. The lady asked if I was an agent.....I said I WAS.....but I was calling about renting the Casa, and that I've been a renter each year since 2005. She took my number to give to the owners and I'll be getting a call later.

So.....I called the San Carlos Agency and spoke with Jennifer who handled the property and updated her on my call. She laughed and said, "What a coincedence"......you see the owner just called her yesterday about either relisting or putting the Casa back into the vacation rental mode.

So.....we'll see what happens. I should get a better idea what's going to happen with the Casa within a week. In the meantime, I'll be looking at other prospects.

I wasn't so bothered by the return leg, it's the bullshit you face on the way in which WILL be at LAX. The advisement is to leave minimum 3 hours to get through security, pick up your bag and then do customs before you get across from the main international terminal to the American Airlines connection at terminal 7. It looks a right pain in the ass where as SFO is not so bad. LAX is a frikkin' nightmare. Still, it's only a pain whilst you're doing it. Once through it's racing time. The BA flight does go right into MRY so just a cab from there to the Casa.

I think you get done twice heading back, once at MRY then again at LAX if what I'm reading is right plus of course passport control at LHR but I've never had a problem at LHR going anywhere.

Anyways, I was only thinking out loud. 3 hours 15 should just be enough at LAX unless SFO is doable for a lift from anyone doing it 25th out and 31st back?

Greg, I am most likely going to attend, just trying to clear up personal matters here at home that should be good by Summer. I will fly solo as I will not be taking my GF to the Casa. Better order my package soon. Booth where are you again Turn 3 suite? I was thinking of changing spots, although I had a blast with Lou and Casey in turn 4.
