Yep, all the slides and action we were hoping for with the return to 1K... I seem to see even less. They must have turned the gizmos up to 11.

I wish they'd run Moto2 or Moto3 last more often. I'll take my nap in the middle and be fresh for some more real racing at the end.

Yeah Ducati stubbornly only built about 6 completely new frames for Rossi including a switch to aluminium twin spar for the first time in the company's history.

Jealous?

And Honda built 5-6 in 2010 yet we don't hear your bitching about that. Why is that? And Ducati had to build a twin spar due to the engine rules as well as dealing with the Bridgestones. The stressed member concept doesn't work well for chassis changes now does it?

The point was they are finally LISTENING, something you have a very hard time with yourself.

Yes, starting with MotoGP really would highlight what a snooze fest it has become. Everyone would be like "gee, they are loud and fast but..." then the passing and fairing bashing begins and the crowd is out of their seats.

In the past, they ran it last so people would stay around and buy more stuff. In the future, they may have to run it first so... people stay around and buy more stuff.

I'm not bitching about anything Lol.. Ducati are doing their very best and should be commended for listening when their rider tells em the bike ain't right! But to pretend all the work they've done til now was against or ignoring the wishes of Rossi and Burgess is a tad silly. The move to aluminium twin spar was necessitated by the need to build Rossi multiple revisions. So yes thats more efficiently done under the 6 engine rule with a twin spar frame rather than a monocoque, but the whole reason for the move was to accommodate Rossi's demands for chassis update upon chassis update. If by the second Carbon frame update Rossi had been happy with the front end feel they would still be using it, but Rossi correctly said it was shit and they responded. ie, listened to what JB and Rossi were saying. The idea that Ducati spent multi-millions of Euros on JB and the GOAT with the company's reputation on the line, but then developed the bike contrary to their wishes is ridiculous.

Yep... although I saw Nicky's bike belching smoke several times throughout QP. Anyone hear WTF on that issue? I was watching a Portuguese feed, so I have no idea what was going on...

Usually when this happens, it is valve seal leakage. Piston rings whould of had it belching smoke all the way around.

It looks as though design rather than development is the issue, at least to me.

Two days testing this week and nothing gained. Methinks VR might piss off back to yamaha now, or take the Honda Sat ride.

As much as it saddens me, if he doesn't change bike.. he might as well retire. It's been 2 years now and they are in the same exact situation!

His ego got him into this mess, I'm not sure it will let him get out of it. Can he really admit defeat like that? Will Honda or Yamaha really give him the factory bits? He won't publicly be able to complain about anything back on one of those bikes.

I don't think it's ego, I think it is more his belief in himself and his abilities. I would call it naivety more than ego as far as getting him into the mess he's in. He naively thought that Ducai would do what he asked and have the ability to fix X problem. Last year Preziosi threw fixes in that did 0 to fix the problems he asked for, same issues he has said to fix since Nov 2010.

I do agree with you about ego if he stays. It will be his ego keeping him there if he signs back up or his stubbornness and will. He knows damn well, now, why Stoner left. Just recently Preziosi caved and is letting Rossi's team be in charge at tests. Before, it was Duck's test crew, and JB was AWOL.

They aren't getting custom hoops made for them as they did in '07. Now they have to deal with the tires same as everyone else. That means having a more compact engine that they can move around in the chassis ie dump the L. Yamaha's engine config is the easiest to do this with which is why they aren't having the problems Ducati are, and to a much lesser extent Honda. The only benefit of an inline engine over a Vee is its easier to move around in the chassis and change weight distro. For everything else the Vee has the advantage.

If Rossi stays it's one of 2 reasons - inability to land another ride or $$$.

What about national pride? He's openly stated that to win on an Italian machine as an Italian rider is important to him. To many of us, particularly in the US that kind of thing isn't as big a deal as it is to Europeans. If it were, HD would have a machine in WSBK as we speak and possibly, a MotoGP team. European 'football' team fans riot over wins or losses, even perceived slights by officials or opposing team members. Wins are a matter of national pride. We, here in the US find that odd and bizarre, at least the general public does. I don't think that should be underestimated as a factor in Rossi's decisions. If he jumps ship back to a Japanese manufacturers bike, sure, he'll be competetive from the off, maybe even win. However, he'll be castigated by the press for jumping ship, for leaving an Italian team for the sake of money or glory instead of sticking it out and making a winner out of the bike. I'm sure, no one is more aware of this than he is.......sean

Agreed. He has said for a decade that he'd like to win n an Italian marque. He knows the history of the sport very well and wants that "glory" that Giacamo received for doing the same thing.
