Watched a show that discussed Hendrix at the Monterey Pop Festival.

It was interesting to see the rivalry between him and The Who.

After watching the show it is clear that there is not anyone who can touch Jimi. He was one with his guitar like no one else.

Funny thing is he was popular in England already before coming back to America for Montery Pop festival in June 1967. Must have been to cool to que up into the venue in England and get inside watching along with all four of the Beatles and others this skinny Black guy playing amazing guitar.Quick fact Jimi had a privy listen to Sgt peppers lonley heart club band the weekend before it's official release and played it live here while Paul Mc Cartney and George Harrison sat in the audience. You think it was loud in there when they played this? ;) Love the bagpipe imitation on Wild thing. There are two types of guitarists, those that willfully acknowledge his influence and those that don't.

His British popularity was part of the story. Monterey was Jimi's coming out party in America. Him and the Who battled over who would go on first. The Who did not want to go on after Jimi, so they went first.

The rest is history.

Amongst many others,I love the look on Lulu's face.

He played her TV show in January 1969.

What went down is they were supposed to sing a duet together to close the show which is what all her guests on the show did. While playing Hey Joe as planned in the middle of the song he suddenly stops and dedicates "Sunshine of your love" to the Cream who had just broken up and used up all of their live air time. The BBC was not too thrilled about that!

Dick Cavett even teased Jimi about it when he appeared on Cavett's TV show twice in 1969.

The Lulu show 04 January 1969

What a great clip. I like the photography a lot. The mix on Voodoo Child was odd in spots, all bass not enough guitar.

Really enjoyed Hey Joe.

Hendrix live is a little too sloppy for my tastes. Reminds me (very slightly) of me 25 years ago, lol.

awesome.

Another thing about Jimi......not only was he left handed......he PLAYED a right handed guiter, not a left handed guitar. Notice the tremolo bar......it's at the top of the guitar as he holds it!

^ a clapton show in the 80s is the only live show I've been to that I wanted to leave early. There was no fire in his playing, going through the motions IMO.

I saw Clapton in the late 80's as well - boring as shit. He has a few good tunes but he's far from a great guitarist.

When I saw Paul McCartney a couple of years ago he mentioned that Hendrix played Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band on stage the day after the album was released - for some reason that popped into my head today so I looked it up:
